Weaving Techniques

We design carpets with passion to suit your requirement.

Carpet weaving requires skill and expertise in weaving techniques. Carpet manufacturers use different weaving techniques to make various kinds of designs and patterns on different types of carpets and rugs. Carpet weaving techniques majorly include:

HAND-KNOTTED CARPETS: When a rug design is finalized, it is woven on the loom. The rug is wrapped vertically on the loom. Weavers knot the warp and cut it before moving on to the next knot. Next, he arranges horizontal rows of wefts across the warps, creating a pile. After weaving all the knots, he inserts the wefts to give the rug a suitable thickness. Our weavers use silk, wool, or cotton for wefts. Next, a knot is tied around warps in the same row by the weaver. The more knots, the more sophisticated is the design. The production of handwoven rugs is labor-intensive, but they are seen as crafts of admiration by people who appreciate excellence in craftsmanship. The traditional rug weaves are typically classified into many categories, such as those that use Turkish knots with symmetrical knot pattern weaving, Persian knots with asymmetrical knot pattern weaving, and Jufti knots with their combination of Turkish and Persian knot patterns, and Spanish knots with solo wraps and symmetrical patterns.

HAND-TUFTED CARPETS: These Carpets are produced with the help of tufting guns. The design of these carpets is less intricate and detailed compared to knotted carpets. A tufted rug begins with a foundation cloth instead of a warp and weft made on the loom. The foundation cloth is then hung and stretched tight. An individual area of the design is hand-tufted using a hand-held gun that shoots the yarn through from the back to the front of the rug or carpet. This is an extremely lengthy process as each color or fiber is tufted separately. Natural latex is then applied to the reverse of the hand-tufted piece to finish it. The entire design is hand-tufted before the piece is laid out. This locks each yarn into the canvas to create a stable surface. After shearing or carving, the carpet is inspected and packaged for shipping. Hand-tufted rugs may have geometric patterns, floral designs, paisley patterns, stripes, or pretty much anything you would see on a machine-made or hand-knotted rug.

HANDLOOM / LOOM KNOTTED WEAVING: Looms are used to weave cloth and tapestry using this technique. Loom grips the warp threads enabling the interweaving of the threads. This method uses fibers in the mid or low-range, such as jacquard.

FLATWEAVE/PILE KILIMS/HANDWOVEN: A flatweave rug is created without knots. The fibers are woven together to create this rug using a mixture of vertical and horizontal strands. The older styles of flatweave rugs include Chainstich rugs, Needlepoint rugs, Aubusson Weaves, and Hooked Rugs. Today’s most popular flatweave styles include Durries, Soumaks, and Kilims. Flatweave rugs are thin rugs that have a no-pile construction. They are portable lightweight rugs that can be picked up and moved easily.
